About Danbury
Danbury is a city in northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It has an estimated population (as of July 1, 2018 ) of 84,992. Danbury is the fourth largest city in Fairfield County and is the seventh largest city in Connecticut.
The city was named for the place of origin of many of the early settlers, Danbury, Essex in England, and has been nicknamed Hat City, because it used to be a center of the hat industry: at one point producing almost 25% of America's hats.
Danbury is located in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, immediately east of the New York State border. Since its founding in 1684, Danbury has managed to preserve many New England traditions while providing for residential and Fortune 500 corporate growth. Greater Danbury residents participate in local organizations and contribute thousands of hours as volunteers. The diverse mixture of cultures and socio-economic levels has produced a cosmopolitan balance in a city where there is a place for everyone. The schools, churches and various organizations make it a good place to live and raise a family with a host of opportunities for entertainment and leisure time activities.
