The students at Ellsworth Avenue raised money to purchase a cow for a needy family in another country through the organization, Heifer International. Heifer International relies on people like us to help empower families around the world.
The students are going to buy a heifer - that's a female cow that has not yet given birth to a calf. This heifer can produce four gallons of milk a day - enough for a family to drink, share with neighbors, and sell for cash. When the heifer does give birth to a female calf, this calf will be passed on to another needy family. Our generous gift will continue to help many other families.
The students were asked to bring a donation for our fundraiser. If students were able to contribute additional money, we gladly accepted it.
The students were able to raise $440.00. The cost of the cow will be $500.00. The teachers and staff at the school were kind enough to offer to donate the difference. We look forward to purchasing our cow and helping this worthy cause. This was such a great way to teach students about Ellsworth Avenue's Mission Statement and show them how we can effect others around the world.
