Mrs. Brenning’s Fifth graders discussed the importance of “filling a person’s bucket” with words and actions that build another’s self esteem and emotional strength:   These are their thoughts.

I would like to fill another person’s bucket by giving them something I have and that they want because sharing is caring.

I like to fill another person’s bucket by writing a nice note about my friend.   I will  tell her that I will never write a mean note back.

I like to fill another person’s bucket by giving them a hug

because it makes them feel good and that person feels like you are their best friend.

I like to fill another person’s bucket

by helping them and making them happy

because some people need it. Some people have

a hard time solving things on their own.  Make people very happy not sad. We do not want sad kids. We want happy kids that care for other people.

I like to fill another person’s bucket by sharing positive thoughts that I think about them. For example, I could say “What a nice smile you have “  or  “Your shoes are cool.”  I like to do this  because I want them to feel good. Also I want them to treat me, just like I treat them!  By the way it can help prevent bullying in some cases.

I  like to fill another person’s bucket by giving them a compliment about something new they bought.  I would give them a compliment because it makes them feel like what they bought was a good choice. Also it makes the person believe that what they bought looks good on them. After all, sharing is caring!
