John Dodd Shop
The House:
The Dodd House was built by John Dodd circa 1790. The house was built as a lawyer’s office and never used as a hat shop. Later, his son William used the building as a cabinet making shop.
Today, the shop is a display for the hatting industry in Danbury. It is open for tours on Saturdays. Visit the Hatting page to learn more about the history of hatting in Danbury.

Location:
Originally the house was located a little farther south on Main Street where a grocery store is today. It was moved to the museum property in 1958.
Cost:
The museum raised $85,000 from different grant agencies and individuals to restore the exterior and interior of the hat shop.
