Candlewood Lake
Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut. It has over 60 miles of shoreline and is over 30 square miles in area. Most parts of the lake are about 30 feet deep, but it goes as deep as 85 feet in one area near New Milford.

People use the lake for recreation such as swimming, fishing, and boating. In the summer, you will see many water skiers and fishermen. In the winter, some people like to go ice fishing there. Candlewood Park is a popular place to swim and have picnics each summer in Danbury.
Candlewood Lake is the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi River. It was created in 1929 by the Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P). The lake provides electricity for the western part of Connecticut. It borders the towns of Danbury, Brookfield, New Milford, Sherman, and New Fairfield.
