The goal of the Athletic Program is to conduct a wholesome and worthwhile activity which is consistent with, and contributes to, the basic philosophy of the Danbury Public Schools. The challenges associated with competitive athletics create learning experiences that enable students to grow and mature. Participation in athletics at Danbury High School is a privilege, which carries the expectation that a student will behave in a responsible manner and follow established rules and regulations.
In 2012-2013, Danbury will field 62 teams in 25 different sports. The athletic program features 29 varsity, 22 junior varsity, and 11 freshmen teams. Fall sports include cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, soccer, swimming (girls) and volleyball (girls). Winter sports include basketball, cheerleading, ice hockey, indoor track, skiing, swimming (boys), and wrestling. Spring sports include baseball, golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis, track, and volleyball (boys).
Physical examinations expire 13 months from inception and must encompass the entire sports season in which the candidate wishes to participate. The sport season encompasses the first practice date and the date of the last scheduled state or regional event listed in the CIAC handbook. Completed physicals should be returned to the nurse's office.
