Charles Ives Birthplace

The House:
The Ives house was the birthplace of Danbury composer, Charles Ives. It was built in 1780 by Thomas Tucker and was both a house and a girl's school. After a big fire in 1820, the Ives family bought the house and renovated it. Several generations of the Ives family lived in this house. The Ives House is open for tours by appointment only.
Location:
The house has been moved three times:
-
•It moved from the corner of Main Street and Chapel Place to a block up on Chapel Place.
-
•In the 1960's the building was donated to the Danbury museum and moved to Rogers Park.
-
•When the Rogers Park Middle School was built, the Ives House was moved to Mountainville Avenue, behind Rogers Park School. The house is currently owned by the Danbury Museum and Historical Society.
Cost:
The Museum is looking for ways to raise money to restore this house next. The approximate cost for restoration is $250,000.
